Join hands to take care of the elderly in difficult circumstances

Over the years, Binh Dinh province has implemented the Law on the Elderly, the National Action Program on the elderly, and policies related to the elderly and brought many positive results. The elderly are entitled to a regular monthly social allowance; elderly people belonging to poor households have their housing improved; Lonely elderly people with special circumstances are taken care of at social protection facilities... Currently, in our province, there are more than 79,500 elderly people receiving subsidies from the state budget; 171,635 elderly people are provided with health insurance; 23,104 elderly people are entitled to wish and celebrate their life every year; more than 8,000 elderly people are participating in activities at 201 clubs of body and mind, physical training, sports, culture and art in localities in the province; 49,000 elderly people receive periodic health check-ups at least once a year; 83,000 elderly people have health monitoring records; 121,000 elderly people were consulted, disseminated knowledge about care and self-care and 1,550 elderly people were examined and treated for eye diseases.

That is the theme of the launching ceremony to respond to the Vietnam Action Month for the Elderly 2022 in the province, held on the morning of September 24, at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square (Quy Nhon City).

Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Lam Hai Giang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Committee for Elderly Affairs; Nguyen My Quang - Director of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Department of Elderly Affairs; Vo Thi Thu Hoa - Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Committee for Mass Mobilization; representatives of leaders of departments, agencies, branches and mass organizations; representatives of leaders of the People's Committees of districts, towns, cities, Labor Departments, Elders Affairs Committees of districts, towns and cities.

In 2015, the Prime Minister decided to make October every year the Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam in order to promote the tradition of "Drink water, remember the source" of children's filial piety towards grandparents, parents and children. the spirit of "Respecting the elderly, respecting longevity", attracting the attention of organizations, individuals and all classes of people to actively participate in the care and support and encourage the elderly to promote their role in social life.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang suggested that the Elderly Associations at all levels from the province to the grassroots, senior officials and members actively promote the implementation of learning and following. Ho Chi Minh's example, morality and style; uphold and promote the tradition of "Advanced age - Higher will" setting a good example for the cause of national construction and defense. Encourage the elderly to actively participate in activities and build strong associations; promote the role of the elderly in the movement of caring for and serving the elderly, especially the elderly in difficult circumstances. Arousing and promoting the wisdom, experience and energy of the elderly in participating in activities of social security, economic development, poverty alleviation and social responsibility; participate in the education of patriotic traditions, ideals, morality and character for the young generation.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang suggested that departments, agencies and associations of the elderly at all levels focus on raising awareness and responsibilities of all levels, branches, organizations, individuals and families. The community and the whole society pay attention to care, nurture and promote the role of the elderly. Promoting the tradition of "Respecting the elderly to respect longevity"; mobilize social resources to help the elderly, especially the elderly who are difficult, lonely and helpless in the most effective way. Coordinating well the work of advising the authorities at all levels to organize the implementation of activities for the elderly, well implement policies for the elderly to ensure timely and complete.

Continue to implement the Prime Minister's Decision No. 544/QD-TTg dated April 25, 2015 on Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam; Decision 88/QD-UBND dated January 7, 2021 of the Provincial People's Committee approving the project on health care for the elderly in the period of 2021-2030 in the province. Organize the implementation of the targets set out in the National Action Program on the elderly in association with the tasks in the plan to respond to the Provincial Action Month for the Elderly. Mobilizing social resources to join hands with the State to support, care for and help the elderly in difficult circumstances in the province overcome difficulties, improve their lives better and better, especially the elderly are ethnic minorities, the elderly in remote, coastal and remote areas. Strengthening medical care for the elderly; continue to implement the vision program for the elderly; organize cultural, artistic and sports activities suitable for the elderly to improve the spiritual life of the elderly, create conditions for the elderly to live happily and healthily with their children and grandchildren and the community. . Strengthen propaganda on policies and laws related to the elderly, meaningful purposes Action month for the elderly, thereby raising the responsibility of each family, village, residential area and important community. care center for the elderly, especially the elderly in difficult circumstances.

At the launching ceremony, leaders of the Provincial Association of Elderly Representatives, Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Health, Quy Nhon City People's Committee made strong commitments to respond to Action Month for the Elderly. age in order to contribute to taking care of elderly people in difficult circumstances in the province.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee gave 10 gifts to representatives of 10 households with elderly people in difficult circumstances in Quy Nhon city.
